World Information: Alexis hails from a world where you can go to an eSports school for children's card games, but was unintentionally abducted to an uninhabited island by Tom Nook (yes, that Tom Nook) to rapidly develop it into a bustling town for more permanent residents to live in. Isla Sonrisa is an idyllic temperate island abundant with natural resources, and can grant the wishes of its inhabitants when a shooting star passes by. It also serves as a hub for interdimensional travel, and given enough time can grant and enhance supernatural powers to its inhabitants. Other than that spooky stuff, though, it's a sleepy small town inhabited primarily by anthropomorphic animals and the occasional visitor from people who helped develop the island.
Personal History: Alexis was just about to duel Jaden for the second satellite key when she was taken by Tom Nook to Isla Sonrisa. After refusing to cooperate with anyone else on the island and being a generally hostile wild card (to the point where she was dunked into the river by Kim Dokja for her behavior), Alexis slowly warmed up to Super Sonico and a few other islanders as time wore on. Then she idly wished upon a star to know what to wish for, and a few days later she regained all her memories of her life before the Society of Light. Alexis had a not-so-minor breakdown over her identity that ended with her kissing Sonico and largely keeping to herself for the rest of her stay on the island while she tried and failed to sort herself out. Then Sonico left with everyone else, Alexis was left alone since she decided to stay, and she subsequently backslid into an embittered, angry young woman with a chip on her shoulder.
Personality:
- Determined: While Sartorius's brainwashing may have almost erased Alexis's free will, her sheer tenacity was undamaged. Her determination to win no matter the cost shines throughout the entire series, but it came back to bite her when she was fully put under Sartorius's control to duel Jaden: her will to win and to prove Jaden wrong was so great that it was completely impossible to break through to her until she was beaten in a duel, and while her experiences on Isla Sonrisa have shaken her confidence, after getting ripped away from Sonico she's doubled down on her arrogance to smother her own feelings.
- Cruel: Even if the core of Alexis's willpower was untouched by Sartorius's meddling, she was molded to be the perfect weapon against Jaden and to delight in suffering. She extracts no small satisfaction from watching him freeze half to death against her Winter Knight deck, and makes a point of rubbing it in exactly how pointless it is to try and bring her back from whatever Jaden thinks she needs saving from. In short, she's a sadist, and she enjoys hurting people (primarily physically, but emotionally will do in a pinch) to blow off steam.
- Ruthless: Alexis was a surprisingly efficient duelist and problem-solver before she was inducted into the Society of Light, and Sartorius only exacerbated and exaggerated that part of her personality. She's willing to do whatever it takes to get ahead and accomplish her goals; this is best exemplified in her choice of deck for her duel against Jaden, which is tailored to shut down many of his best strategies right off the bat and to prevent him from fighting back at all. This shines through in many other aspects of her personality as well, as she intentionally leveraged Jaden's desire to return her to her old self to corner him into dueling her for the satellite key.
- Dependent: As much as she may vehemently deny it, Alexis being placed under Sartorius's control almost completely eroded her free will. She had one mission in life, to defeat Jaden and take his key, and without that direction she's rudderless. She briefly found a new life purpose on Isla Sonrisa with Sonico and discovered some measure of independence and happiness, but after Sonico left she has once more been completely without direction and desperately looking for something or someone to dedicate herself too, although again she'd never admit it.
- Loyal: Speaking of, for those who manage to earn her loyalty—which is no mean feat in her current state—Alexis is unfailingly faithful, willing to do anything (such as act as a price to a delusional frog princess or ruthlessly attack somebody people keep telling her is one of her best friends) for them without any question. However, it's become even harder to earn her trust since she's lost Sonico.
- Stubborn: Alexis absolutely refuses to accept anyone's help, especially if they insist that she "needs" it somehow, like when Jaden kept on saying that she needed his and the others' help to break out of her mind control. Her fierce independence is directly at odds for her needs for an outside purpose, which means that she's even nastier than usual whenever she lashes out against people who try to "help" her, regardless of how genuine the offer is.
- Conflicted: Right now, Alexis is defined by her uncertainty over her identity. Is she really Alexis, or is she just an extension of the Light Sartorius implanted in her body to act as his slave? If that's the case, then is there any real hope of getting back the "real" Alexis? What will happen to her then? And if she really is Alexis, what does it mean that she's changed so much? Et cetera, et cetera. This inner debate makes her even more unstable and prone to snapping than usual.
Also, Alexis is a catgirl now.
Key themes: The key themes of Alexis's story right now are recovery from her time in the Society of Light, rediscovery of who she is now as a person now that she's been irreversibly changed by it, and identity as she's still struggling to find out who she is on a metaphysical level and every day is an existential horrorshow for her.
Main Motivation: To never love again and to never think about who she really is again either.
Skills:
- Isla Sonrisa turned Alexis into a catgirl, with all the advantages that offers. She's much more agile than a normal human being, has claws, enhanced hearing from her cat ears, nightvision from her slit pupils, greater balance with her tail, et cetera. The only disadvantage is that if she's picked up by the nape of her neck she will go limp like a kitten.
- As part of a dream trip to the Smash Brothers Animal Crossing Town stage (yes, really), Isla Sonrisa gave all of its inhabitants their powers back to compete—or endowed them with new ones if they didn't have any. In Alexis's case, she gained:
- The ability to summon up to three Snow Fairies, who can negate most kinds of magic and attack with ice beams,
- The ability to create and crudely manipulate supernaturally tough ice, with the more ice summoned the more energy she expends
- The ability to summon the titanically powerful White Night Dragon if supplied with enough magical energy from outside sources
- Near-indestructibility, while she can be given light wounds and be knocked out, Alexis cannot die
- The ability to reduce gravity's pull on her body, letting her jump to ridiculous heights and perform otherwise impossible tricks
Sample: Alexis bullies Rei
Notes: I listened to "Lights Out" by Mindless Self Indulgence on loop while writing this app, which gives a good indication where Alexis is at mentally right now.
